ENERGY

Metabolism: how fast or slow your body can process what you put in your mouth.

The energy that we need to live comes from the breakdown of nutrients. (fatty acids; grains/pastas, glucose; fruit/sweetened foods, and amino acids; eggs/fish).

Here is a list of foods with glucose; the major enery source of the body:

  • Starchy foods
  • Fruit
  • Sweetened foods
  • Grapes
  • Whole grains
  • Honey

The foods that we eat are either burned to give us engery, converted to body weight, or excreted. Calories from carbs are used for energy too so as long as your using that energy in the gym or something useful, the carbs will just stay on those thighs and chill there as fat! (yuck!)

The faster the metabolism you have, the easier it will be to burn fat. I guess I should tell you HOW to bump it up, huh? As much as you may or may not like it, picking up the weights at the gym instead of staying on the tredmill for an hour will do the trick.  You know that energy that is made throguh the breakdown of foods, well you muscles feed on them and eat them up, therefore, speeding up the rate you burn calories. So for all you girls, don’t be afraid to pick up some dumbbells!! The other way to speed up the metabolism, is to not starve yourself. If you want to lose weight, or whatever you goal is, don’t forget to eat 5-6 small meals a day, every 3-4 hours. As long as your eating HEALTHY foods and not just whatever is in front of you.

But what happens when you work out and two days later, you can barely walk up the stairs. AKA: Lactic Acid. If you are working out and you can’t even get to your 5th pushup, this is the time to stop and slow down your work out until the lactic acid is removed. When it is removed, it coverts to lactate which is used for ENERGY. Oh, look at that that, back where we started! A good way to get rid of the lactic acid when your sore, is to stretch.

Benefits of a Proper Warm-Up and Cool Down:

  • Reduces fatigue
  • Injury reduction
  • Increases the amount of repititions, and sets you can do

Go and use all that energy you have and be productive!

  1. Question for you: a few weeks ago, a friend was discussing her new meal plan, specifically, her list of “no-no” foods. FRUIT was on the top of her list…I was baffled. How can that be? Is fruit truly bad for you? According to my friend, because of its sugar content, fruit is taboo. How can something natural and earth-grown be unhealthy?

  2. Fruits not only contain vitamins, but also sugars/glucose and carbs. However, they are the good carbs that we need for energy. Therefore, as long as your friend is working out and using those nutrients in the right way, she will be fine to eat her daily fruit recommendations!
